I purchased three of these covers on a whim...mostly because the price was right and I needed to beef up our diaper stash. Boy, am I so glad! These covers are GREAT! I've used them with a Snappi, and also stuffed with a trifold. My son never has any red lines, and we haven't had any leaking. Also, they wash beautifully!
Personally, we don't use prefolds and covers at night since we have a deep sleeper and a heavy wetter, so I can't attest to their overnight abilities.
Pros: Snug fit, price, quality, great design
We started using Palm Tree covers right after they first came out last summer. Now, after 7 months of continuous use, they still look brand new and work just as well as they did back then. We trifold prefolds and just lay them in the covers. No leaks or bunching. Even my husband prefers these covers. I think my favorite feature is the tuck flap for the prefolds. This makes it easy to prepare diapers ahead of time for other people, like grandma.
I also received this cover with the "free cover" coupon. The first difference I noticed between this and my other one-size covers is that the Palm Tree is cut a good bit smaller. (I'd say about an inch through the rise and two inches in the waist). I was pretty skeptical at first, and thought about giving it away to a friend with a newborn. But I gave it a try and found that it fits my 2 year old much better than I originally thought it would. In fact, of the four brands of covers I have tried, this one actually seems to fit the best. It is also her favorite to wear. (I am still concerned she will outgrow it faster than the others. But hopefully by then we will be transitioning out of diapers, anyway.)
I use this cover with OsoCozy flats and with recycled receiving blankets. The fit is best with the birdseye in an origami fold, but I have been able to use the flannel, too, without red marks. I've also folded the diaper into a rectangle (like a tri-folded prefold) and slid it under the flap. It is so nice not to be messing with a snappi at 2 AM! I have another brand of covers with this feature. The Palm Tree seems to be sewn a little tighter and hold the diaper a little more securely in place.
The second big difference (after size) is the fabric inside the cover. On the one hand, this might be part of why my daughter prefers to wear it. On the other, it does give it more likelihood of needing to be washed after a change. (Rather than just wiped out and aired.) But I have enough covers now that it hasn't been a problem. I wouldn't want this one if I was back at the beginning of my stash when I only had 3 covers to work with. The fabric gives the diaper a nice "finished" look.
One other note: I also received the velcro version. Way too easy for baby to take the diaper off.
Awesome! Especially for babies on the move
I received this as a free cover and have been using it with the OsoCozy better fit prefolds. After using this for a couple of weeks I feel like I’ve been missing out. Up until this cover I’ve been using Pocket diapers and AI2 diapers and after comparing them to these, I am seriously wondering why I spent so much money on my other AI2 diapers. Laying in a prefold is just as quick and easy as a snap and the flap in the front not only makes it super easy to prep one for caregivers but also makes it fool proof when dealing with front wicking. I also LOVE that it is so easy to wash and dry, drying much faster than any of my other diapers or covers. No more worrying about stink or repelling issues like I do with my pocket diapers.
I love the stretchy material this is made out of and that it is stretchy all around and not just in the tabs. The stretch gives it a perfect fit making sure it is tight and comfortable with minimal red marks. This flexibility ensures there are no gaps around the legs with all of the crawling and walking my one year old does. Since these are two layers of PUL with the laminate/rubbery sides of the PUL facing each other, all your baby feels it that softer outer side of the PUL (no more sticking to the skin in the summer). The only down side to this if the cover gets any mess on it or gets very wet then it cannot be wiped out and a new cover is needed. But since these are such a great price, I don’t mind having a couple more on hand for those messy diapers.
What sold me on this diaper was when I put it on my large, thick, tall, 40lb 2 ½ year old and it kind of fit. He was clearly maxing it out, but when he had a large bowl movement the mess all stayed in! That is a first for us! I credit it to the stretchiness which provided the space he needed without causing it to gap around the legs.
This is not only a great everyday cover, for every size, but is also great for crawlers and walkers and for those days when you need to double up on absorbency.
