TIPS:

Here are some tips on swaddling and how to use the Woombie!

Tip #1:
The best time to swaddle a baby is when he/she is calm.... Waiting until baby is over-tired and already fussy may make him feel worse and unable to "settle".

Tip #2:
In the Winter, Put baby into warm PJ's first and then into the Woombie. An extra light blanket may be used on top of the Woombie if cold... use your judgment while remembering that overheating may be linked to SIDS. In Summertime, just a Onesie or diaper alone is needed.

Tip #3:
Please give baby a chance to get used to a new swaddling method! If baby has been in a tight restraint swaddle from birth, he/she may be confused by the change! Give baby time to adapt. The Woombie allows for stretch, which is a good thing, and will assist in baby's important Motor Development!

Tip #4:
The Woombie may appear smaller than baby, but that is part of the Woombie concept. The stretch fabric does in fact stretch to mold to your baby's unique physique!

Tip #5:
Always position baby safely per Pediatrician recommendations to prevent rolling when using all swaddlers.

Tip #6:
If there are a few extra inches at the foot end, you may tie the toe area with a small sash to decrease the overall length.

Heather's Personal Experience: We tried the Woombie when we first brought our little son home from the hospital.  It worked well, but soon after he didn't seem to need swaddling so we forgot about our Woombie.  That is, until he was 6 weeks old.  After two solid weeks of not enough sleep, I finally remembered the Woombie.  Zipped our little guy up and to our amazement and relief, he woke up only once all night long.  And the next night, and the next...we were Woombie-believers!

Pros:
  • stretchiness
  • quality
  • color
  • safety
Cons:
My daughter has always needed to be swaddled to go to sleep, and she still prefers it even at six months old. I'd gotten a SwaddleMe at a consignment store, and that worked when she was a newborn, but she was breaking out of it and waking herself up as she got older. I read Heather's blog about the Woombie and decided to try it. I got the "Big Baby" version and LOVE IT! My girl can't get out of it, and it can't get up around her face even when she wiggles her arms around. If she still needs to be swaddled as she gets older, I'll probably be purchasing the "Mega Baby" for her! I love this thing, and will be giving them to all my friends who are having babies.
The Woombie changed my life!

Cons:
My son was waking me 6-8 times a night when I finally ordered the Woombie. We started using the big baby size when he was 13 pounds and 4 weeks old. (Yes, I know he was huge.) It was miraculous! He woke only once that night. Since then (three months old now), he has consistently woken once or twice a night to eat. I nurse him and lay him down in his co-sleeper where he falls asleep happily until the wee hours of the morning.
